Understanding Existing Investments
Not everybody fully understands the investments that they own. This might be because they are not particularly interested, any more so than they are in what makes their car or washing machine work. Also, the occasions on which an individual may seek advice might be when they are obliged to assume a responsibility for their finances that they have previously left to a partner: following bereavement or divorce, for instance. Part of an independent financial review is therefore to provide the client with a basic understanding of what they already have and why it either remains appropriate as part of a balanced portfolio, or not. This does not mean that everybody needs to be an investment expert. Amongst our clients, there exists a huge diversity in the levels of financial know-how but understanding the things that matter and leaving the rest to the adviser should achieve an essential goal: peace of mind.
