Meet The Team
Phil has over 30 years’ experience in Financial Services having started in the industry in 1984. He joined Beechwood in 1998 and became a partner in the practise a year later. He is qualified to Diploma Level in financial planning by the Chartered Insurance Institute. He is classed as a Pensions specialist and remains a qualified member of the Personal Finance Society.
Outside of work Phil enjoys playing or watching most sports and is a Junior Rugby Coach at Welwyn RFC. He is also an avid fan of Leeds United Football Club although he blames his lack of hair on this! Phil is married with 3 children and at 6 ft 8 inches tall is by far the tallest member of the team!
Graham joined the industry in 1986 and, having worked previously for a national broker and top 50 accountancy practice, joined Beechwood in 2001. Graham has a great deal of experience dealing with complex pensions including Small Self-Administered Schemes and Self invested Personal Pensions. Graham also deals with a number of Pension & Divorce cases and he was one the first Resolution approved specialists.
Graham also specialises in investments which often forms an integral part of the schemes mentioned above. A great deal of time is spent in the back ground researching the investments selected to ensure the portfolios recommended reflect our client’s requirements.
Stephen joined Beechwood at the start of 2012 and became a Director in 2015, having previously spent six years as an adviser for a leading national firm of IFAs. Prior to this, he studied at the University of York, graduating with a BA (Hons) degree in Politics.
Stephen is qualified to Advanced Diploma Level in Financial Planning as well as holding Chartered Financial Planner status and is a designated Pension Transfer Specialist. Stephen has particular expertise in Pension and Retirement Planning as well as providing his clients with advice on their investment portfolios. In addition, Stephen regularly provides advice to local solicitors in relation to trustee investments, Court of Protection cases or where a Power of Attorney is in place.
Stephen believes firmly in providing a personal, professional and unbiased approach to financial advice and in building long term trust based relationships with his clients; principles which have been core to Beechwood’s approach for over 40 years.
In 2016 Stephen was listed as one of the top young advisers in the country in the prestigious New Model Adviser rising star awards (sadly, he no longer qualifies as a ‘young’ adviser!). He also volunteers for the ‘Discover Fortunes’ initiative run by the Personal Finance Society, which is designed to promote financial awareness to secondary school children.
Michelle joined Beechwood in 2010 after graduating with a Law degree from the University of Reading. Since then she has progressed from Administrator to Paraplanner and is now an Adviser within the firm. She holds the Diploma in Financial Planning and is continuing her studies towards achieving Chartered status.
Michelle oversees much of the pension and investment research and has experience particularly in helping clients with their retirement planning. Michelle advises her own clients as well as continuing to support the other advisers within the firm. She enjoys the diversity and challenges of the role, and continues to put our clients’ needs at the heart of what we do at Beechwood.
Geoff joined the Financial Services Industry in 1975 and started Beechwood three years later. He has seen many changes: in the 1970s there was no such thing as an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) and most people bought their savings and pension policies from some form of direct salesman or from an insurance broker. Initially, with Geoff as the only adviser, Beechwood developed as a specialist in the field of life and pensions and investments which we now refer to as Financial Services. One of the hallmarks of Beechwood is its long term relationships with clients, many of whose relationship with Geoff dates back to the 1970s and 80s. Both the firm and the requirements of its clients have developed in tandem. In terms of professionalism, the Financial Services Industry has moved a long way since 1978 when it was not necessary to have qualifications. Geoff holds the Diploma in Financial Planning and is a member of the Personal Finance Society. He is married, lives locally and has two grown up children.
Adam joined Beechwood’s graduate programme in 2015 after graduating from Portsmouth University with a degree in Television & Broadcasting. Adam spent two years working as part of the administration team before progressing to a paraplanning role. Adam has gained the Certificate in Financial Services and is currently working towards the Diploma in Financial Planning.
Adam provides in depth support to all the advisers including attending client meetings, liaising with product providers and undertaking in depth research.
An experienced and dedicated back-up team is central to the Beechwood service. There are 5 in all: Dot Shipman, Millie Williams, Jane Macfarlane, Catherine Dear and Tyler Glasson, 3 of whom have been with the firm for more than 10 years. Administrators do not give advice but there will always be somebody who is familiar with whatever is happening on your account and our established clients appreciate being familiar with the names and voices of those that support the advisers.
